John Cabot University is more than 30 years old, and since its foundation it has been located at the banks of the Tiber river, the third longest in Italy, known by its astonishing old bridges. The University’s library contains one of the Italy’s largest collections of books written in English.

Mr. Francisco Tamayo Collins, coordinator of the internationalization of the Philosophy and humanities School, spoke about the characteristics and advantages of this agreement.

What opportunities does the academic agreement with John Cabot University offer to the Sergio Arboleda’s Students?

The agreement that has been subscribed with such an important university is an excellent option to experience two cultures simultaneously. On the one hand, students will experience the academic life in the English language, which offers the guarantee of the high quality of any other American University. On the other hand, Rome’s legacy is at hand: Italy’s capital will endow students with the cultural richness inherited from the vast history of Rome. Such culture can be lived through the history, architecture, gastronomy, astonishing churches and religious icons that Rome possess, which are all renown throughout the world. John Cabot University offers the Sergio Arboleda University students a high academic quality level, that means that the best of the United States and Italy merge at the very heart of Rome. Furthermore, John Cabot University grants access to our students to all the facilities with which it counts in Italy.

It was founded in 1972. It is dedicated to the liberal arts, and it offers 13 undergraduate programs in business, humanities, social sciences and programs to study abroad for students from all over the world who master the English language. John Cabot University is small, but this has had a great impact, since its methodology of small classes allow professors to engage in dialogue with students. Students who have benefitted from their very high quality in formation, obtaining thereby jobs in very important multinational companies as well as entrance for postgraduate programs in very prestigious universities such as Columbia University, John Hopkins, London School of Economics, Oxford university, Auckland Business School, among others.
What do you consider to be the added value of this American University which activity takes place in Rome?

Regardless of whether a student is pursuing a professional career or simply having the experience of studying abroad, he or she will be living at the very heart of Rome. Rome surrounds students with its beauty, history, culture, art, creativity as well as with its business and international affairs, since Rome is the capital of Italy. Hence, this is a very unique opportunity for students, which must be greatly taken into account.
Why would you recommend this agreement between the two universities?

Because the conditions that it offers are excellent in all fronts of it. Not only does this agreement offer great academic opportunities, but it also teaches English to our students. All this happens while students absorb all the marvels of a city that carries within itself various human treasures. Since this happens under the condition of being students, Europe is endowed with enormous benefits.
From your experience as a professor, why do you think it is important for a student to live an internationalization experience?

Being open to the world knowing various cultures, having new looks and ways of understanding reality is the best a student can do. These experiences give them the chance to complement their academic formation with life lessons that are learned by being away from home. Such lessons leave a lasting impression in the student’s soul. Indubitably, traveling and learning from others constitute a jewel in the crown of integral human formation.

Students who are interested in this opportunity of academic mobility must go to the International Relations Office from February 1st.
