For María Angélica, the idea of being in touch with people from several countries, knowing many cultures and being away from home for two years, on another continent, was something that attracted her but at the same time generated fear. However, in 2016, she decided to take the risk and do the double degree at Griffith University, in Australia.
“I left Colombia in April 2017, and in that moment began one of the most enriching experiences of all my life, despite the fact that the first months were a bit difficult due to the process of adapting to the language, especially to the Australian accent and for the fact of facing a completely new educational system”, says María Angélica.
Griffith University, ranked in the top of the best 300 universities worldwide, has six campuses to which all students have access. This is one of the options that schools as the International School of Business and Marketing the School of Sciences of Communication offer to do a double degree.
The academic quality of this Autralian institution is evident at all times. María Angélica emphasizes that she was able to develop new critical thinking skills, based on research that allowed her to strengthen the bases she had previously acquired at Sergio Arboleda. “The professors are very well qualified. To teach at Griffith University it is necessary to have minimum a Ph.D. in the study area. They must also have enough years of work experience, which allows knowledge to always be grounded and associate with real life cases”, adds the student.
María Angélica, besides standing out for her academic excellence, since being at Griffith she was benefited with the GELI Entry Direct Program (DEP) Scholarship (grant of one thousand Australian dollars that is awarded to the student with the highest grade of the class), had the opportunity to discover other places in the world.
After receiving her Bachelor of International Business, this student of Marketing and International Business returned to Colombia and now make a balance of her experience.
“I managed to get out of the comfort zone and focus on understanding and respecting differences, because in this globalized world, multiculturalism is a key concept that we only have fully understanding when we start this kind of programs and have the opportunity to travel. This is why I recommend this experience I thank the University for its continuous effort to establish new agreements abroad with quality institutions that allow us to continue our studies in an international context”, concludes María Angélica.
